A purpose-built student housing scheme, delivering 735 beds as part of the next generation of student accommodation in Sheffield.


The project faced a number of environmental sensitivities, being sited within a designated conservation area, in proximity to listed buildings, and in an area subject to policy presumptions that tightly control residential development by type.


In addition, the site, brownfield land, proved to be heavily contaminated, and noise dominated the environment.

 

In terms of design, the developer wanted to push the boundaries on matters of scale.


Crowley Associates was appointed to the project from inception, working with the clients, and the architects to deliver a design and planning strategy, taking the project through the pre-application process; and finally preparing, submitting and managing a series of planning applications. The project was delivered over two phases, and it opened in November 2018.
